Before You Bet on Cricket – Learn the rules

The grass free surface is called pitch, in each end is a wicket, with three stumps with two bails that rests on the wicket. The bowler from the fielding side throws the ball at the wicket-keeper, and the batsman's job is to defend the wicket with the bat. The other players on the fielding side are tasked with throwing the already hit balls at the wicket-keeper, or alternately at the wicket.

How to Play Cricket

The teams take turns in bowling and batting. The batting team has only two players – both “batsmen” on the field defending one wicket each. The batsmen run between the wickets when one of the batsmen hit the ball - this must be done before a fielding player manages to throw the ball to the wicket-keeper or the wicket. If the two batsmen in the playing area manage to reach the wicket before being out caught by the opposing team that team scores a run. If the ball is hit out of bounds, they score six runs. If the ball hits the field before it is out of bounds they score four runs.

The batsmen run between the wickets when one of the batsmen hit the ball - this must be done before a fielding player manages to throw the ball to the wicket-keeper or the wicket.

The goal of the team on the fielding side is to dismiss the batsmen, and this is most commonly achieved by making them out caught. When only one batter remain the teams change places. The teams also change places if the batters can’t manage to keep up with the opposing team's number of runs. When the batter is out it is called wicket, this happens when the batter misses the ball or when the ball hits the wicket and cause the bails to fall. The batter is out if a player on the fielding side catches the ball in the air before it hits the ground. If the batter misses the ball resulting in the ball hitting the batter - the fielding team gain a wicket, the same applies if one of the batters fail in crossing the line before the fielding side hits the wicket with the ball, or if the wicket-keeper catches the ball.
