Barstool Sportsbook Review

In 2020 the sports media empire that is Barstool Sports teamed up with long-time US gambling operator Penn National Gaming to launch their own betting site - the Barstool Sportsbook.

In the first month of launch, the Barstool Sportsbook got over 310,000 app downloads showing the strength of the brand and the popularity of betting amongst their loyal fans - the Stoolies.

Putting Barstool Sports and its somewhat controversial brand aside, the Barstool Sportsbook is undoubtedly a top player although there are a few things we'd like to see before we can call it one of the best US betting sites.

First up the Barstool Sportsbook and App look good, they're modern, fast, and easy to use, have a good support section, live chat feature and on the whole Barstool seem to take responsible gambling seriously.

There's also a solid range of betting markets for the biggest US sports, including some unique parlays and prop bets, and the odds for these events are pretty competitive although, on the whole, you may lose a few units on less popular betting markets.

The Barstool Sportsbook has noticeably fewer betting options for smaller sports and live sports.

In terms of betting features, the Barstol Sportsbook offers favourites like Custom Teasers, Custom Parlays, Same Game Parlays and Cash Out - although these are limited to only a few sports and bet types and annoyingly can only be seen after you add bets to your bet slip.

The Barstool Sportsbook also lets you "Bet with Barstool" to follow bets from your favourite Barstool personalities, place a Quick Pick 6 parlay, customize your sportsbook layout, and read betting trends and stats which are all nice features but we'd appreciate more promotions that add real value, more live betting options and if same game parlay options were more widely available.

What we like about the Barstool Sportsbook ✅

  • The Barstool Sportsbook is easy to use & looks great
  • Barstool offers stats & trends for many sports betting markets
  • The Barstool website & app are the same for all legal states

What we don't like about the Barstool Sportsbook ❌

  • The Barstool Sportsbook has fewer betting features than some others
  • Controversies surrounding the Barstool brand may be off-putting

The reality is that there's not a huge difference between the Barstool Sportsbook and other top US betting sites so if you like the brand, the sign up bonus, or the look of the site then creating an account won't hurt.

However, if you want a long-term betting site with more betting options, slightly better odds, and more consistent promos then we recommend sites like PointsBet, Bet365, and Unibet.

  • The Barstool Sportsbook & App are modern, fast, easy-to-use, and even customizable
  • The Barstool Sportsbook has a great sign up bonus worth up to $100
  • The Barstool Sportsbook customer service team is friendly, well trained, and available 24/7
  • The Barstool Sportsbook competitive offers odds on all US pro and college sports plus betting options for a range of smaller international events

Where is the Barstool Sportsbook legal?

The Barstool Sportsbook is legal in these states: Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.

You do not have to live in one of these states to do Barstool sports betting but you do have to bet over 21, a US citizen, and physically in one of these states when you place your online bets.

What is Barstool Sportsbook?

Barstool Sportsbook is an online betting site owned by The Chernin Group and Penn National Gaming who are majority shareholders in the Barstool Sports brand.

The Barstool Sportsbook allows players in Barstool Sportsbook legal states to place online wagers on the outcomes of sports events in the US and around the world.

How does Barstool Sportsbook work?

The Barstool Sportsbook works like any other online betting site in the US. Players who are US citizens and over 21 can place bets on the sporting events offered by the Barstool Sportsbook when they are physically in Barstool Sportsbook legal state.

Before you can place a bet with the Barstool Sportsbook you must create a Barstool Sportsbook account, verify your identity, and then deposit money using one of the Barstool Sportsbook payment options offered.

All new customers can also receive up to $1010 in bonus cash with the Barstool Sportsbook sign up bonus.

How does Barstool Sportsbook payout?

The Barstool Sportsbook has a variety of payment options depending on your state. Some of these payment options can only be used for deposits, others only for payouts and some can be used for both.

Barstool Sportsbook deposit and payout options include:

  • Visa and MasterCard (Deposits)
  • Apple Pay (Deposits)
  • Wire Transfer (Deposits)
  • PayNearMe (Deposits)
  • ACH/eCheck (Deposits & Payouts)
  • PayPal (Deposits & Payouts)
  • Online Banking (Deposits & Payouts)
  • Barstool Sportsbook & Casino Play+ Card (Deposits & Payouts)

Barstool Sportsbook payout times vary by withdrawal method but they range from a couple of minutes (Play+) to a day or two (PayPal) and even a week (online banking). The minimum Barstool Sportsbook withdrawal is $10 for most payout options except check where it is $250.

How does the Barstool Sportsbook Bonus work?

The Barstool Sportsbook bonus is:

  • $1000 Paid Back as Bonus Cash

You will need to make a deposit and place your first bet. If this bet loses you will get your money back in Barstool Sportsbook bonus cash up to $1000.

Your bonus cash can then be split up however you like but must be bet on sports outcomes with odds of -200 (1.50) or higher within 30 days. You will receive any winnings from these bets and your bonus cash will only be withdrawable if your bets win.

How do you download the Barstool Sportsbook app?

The Barstool Sportsbook app can be downloaded from the App Store for iPhone users and the Google Play Store for Android users.

To download the Barstool Sportsbook app:

  1. Select the green button above to get your bonus
  2. Create a Barstool Sportsbook account
  3. Head to the App Store or Play Store
  4. Search for "Barstool Sportsbook"
  5. Tap the download button
  6. Sign in to your account
  7. Start betting!

There is only one app for both Barstool Casino and Sportsbook players and the app is the same for Barstool Sportsbook legal states which makes finding the Barstool Sportsbook app and downloading it way easier than for other betting sites.

Who can use the Barstool Sportsbook?

Any US citizen over the age of 21 who doesn't already have a Barstool Sportsbook account can create one and use the Barstool Sportsbook.

You will also have to be in Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, or Virginia with your geolocation turned on to place your bets on the Barstool Sportsbook.

Barstool Sports Betting

If you're looking to casually bet on US sports then the Barstool Sportsbook should have almost everything you'll want - however if you want a wider range of betting options, slightly higher odds, and more betting features then we recommend sports betting sites like PointsBet, Bet365, and Caesars Sportsbook.

The Barstool Sportsbook is good for casual sports bettors because they offer all US pro sports like the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, NASCAR, UFC, MLS, and a bunch of college sports too. They also have a smaller number of international events from tennis tournaments to darts competitions and international rugby leagues.

Barstool sports betting

The Barstool Sportsbook is a solid choice but is eclipsed by other US betting sitesin terms of features, betting options and odds

The Barstool Sportsbook has most of the betting options you're looking for like Spreads, Moneylines, Over/Unders, Props, Teasers, Parlays, Same Game Parlays, additional derivate markets, as well as some unique bets, boosts and parlays found in the "Barstool Exclusives" section. However, the Same Game Parlay and Teaser options are somewhat limited compared to other betting sites.

In general, the Barstool Sportsbook's odds are competitive but you'll tend to get a few units less especially the more niched your bet type and match is.

Barstool does offer features like Cash Out and Live Betting but the number of bet types and markets supported is low.

A few other features worth noting are the Barstool Sportsbook betting stats and trends provided by iSportGenius which can be pretty helpful if you're looking to make informed bets, as well as the Quick Pick 6 feature which lets you make a custom 6-game parlay and the Bet with Barstool feature (read more below).

Bet with Barstool

In the Barstool Exclusives section of the Barstool Sportsbook - look for the Barstool logo in the menu - you'll find daily odds boosts and Bet with Barstool picks courtesy of your favourite Barstool personalities.

These odds boosts and picks are often creative and can be good value but in general, the number of Barstool Sportsbook odds boosts available is a lot more limited than what's on offer at other betting sites.

Bet with barstool

If you're a Stoolie or you follow Barstool personalities like El Pres and Big Cat, you'll find their picks in the 'Bet with Barstool' section of 'Barstool Exclusives'

Barstool Sports Betting Features

Barstool Sportsbook Odds

For US sports and popular betting markets like Spreads, Moneylines, and Totals, Barstool Sportsbook's odds are right up there with the best US betting sites but as you start to get into Player Props and smaller derivative markets you'll find that Barstools odds could be better.

In general, Barstool's odds for non-US sports like international soccer, tennis, rugby, cricket etc. are also slightly below the market average.

Barstool Sportsbook Sports

The Barstool Sportsbook has a lot of different sports to bet on from the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, and college sports to lacrosse, cycling, cricket, rugby, darts, soccer, table tennis, and much more, however, the number of betting markets for these sports is small and some only have Moneyline odds.

Barstool Sportsbook Parlays & Teasers

Barstool Sportsbook Teasers are limited to football and Basketball bets and aside from the biggest college games, are restricted to just NBA and NFL bets.

Barstool Sportsbook Parlays on the other hand can be created across all sports but Same Game Parlays are similarly restricted to only a few bet types and sports leagues as long as your bets are not correlated (eg. you can't build a Same Game Parlay with a Moneyline and Spread bet but you can with a Moneyline and Total bet).

Barstool Sportsbook Bet Types

The number of different betting markets available for a given sport on the Barstool Sportsbook depends on its popularity and importance. For example, you'll find plenty of NFL, MLB, NBA, and NHL bets from Spreads, Moneylines, Totals, Player Props, Quarter/Period/Halftime Result and a bunch of other markets.

For smaller sports though, you'll likely only find the standard bet types meaning Barstool is a good choice for US-minded bettors but is quite lacking when it comes to international sports betting options.

Barstool Sportsbook Cash Out

Most bets can be cashed out of on the Barstool Sportsbook and you'll see your cash out options in the active bets section of your bet slip after placing a bet. Ideally, bets that are eligible for cash out would be shown before your bet is placed because as it stands, you never know if your bet will have the cash out options until it is placed.

When you cash out of a Barstool sports bet you take a decreased payout but lock in your bets early.

Barstool Sportsbook Live Betting

The Barstool Sportsbook's live betting options are pretty poor.

Aside from the fact that there are only a few live betting markets available at any given moment, the Barstool Sportsbook has no play-by-play graphic or game timer showing you what is happening in the game you want to bet on.

This makes it tough for bettors who want to place informed and accurate live bets with Barstool.

Barstool Sportsbook Betting Stats & Trends

One nice thing about the Barstool Sportsbook is the betting stats and trends that they provide courtesy of iSportGenius for top events like the NBA, MLB, NFL, and more.

These stats and trends can help you to make more informed bets but compared to other betting sites they are somewhat limited for many sports and only show you previous results and win percentages.

Barstool Sportsbook App

The Barstool Sportsbook app is available on both Android and iOS devices and has most of the same pros and cons as the online betting site.

For example, the Barstool Sportsbook app is modern, fast, looks good, and generally functions well. It also has all of the betting options as the website plus the same competitive odds.

The Barstool Sportsbook app has a limited number of promos and smaller betting markets including Same Game Parlays, Teasers, and Live Bets.

There are also some more minor things that we don't like about the Barstool Sportsbook App, for example, you can't remove selections from the Parlay or Teaser section of your betslip, you need to navigate to the Standard Bets section to do this.

The live betting section is also pretty slow to update which means your bets get rejected sometimes.

Barstool app preview april 2023

The Barstool Sportsbook app has a good sign up bonus and is easy to use but for a long-term betting app with more promos and options we recommend other sports betting apps

What we like about the Barstool Sportsbook App ✅

  • Modern, fast, intuitive design
  • Good odds and options for US sports
  • Helpful in-app customer service team
  • Great sign up bonus worth up to $1000
  • Parlays, Teasers, Cash Out & Live Betting
  • Bet with Barstool & Exclusive Odds Boosts
  • Betting stats and trends for many sports

What we don't like about the Barstool Sportsbook App ❌

  • Live odds slow to update
  • Betslip functionality needs improvement
  • Smaller range of markets for non-US sports

Barstool Sportsbook App Android

The Barstool Sportsbook Android app is on the Google Play Store which is great because many sports betting apps in the USA have to be downloaded directly from the betting website that you use.

In the past, the Barstool Sportsbook app for Android has had some minor bug issues that cause crashes but recent updates seem to have fixed most of these problems.

You can download the Barstool Sportsbook Android app directly from the Google Play Store.

We recommend signing up with the Barstool Sportsbook online to make sure that you secure your sign up bonus before downloading the Android app.

Barstool Sportsbook App iPhone

The Barstool Sportsbook app for iPhone, iPad, and other Apple devices is on the App Store. We prefer the iOS barstool app to the Android one because it's a but smoother and less glitchy but most users don't have the luxury of choosing which device and opertaing system.

Like many iOS betting apps, the Barstool Sportsbook is better on iPhone than iPad because the iPad version of the Barstool Sportsbook app has more white space and some menu options are grouped tightly.

Barstool Sportsbook App iPhone Download

Mason Kelliher

You can download the Barstool Sportsbook iPhone app directly from the App Store.

We recommend signing up with the Barstool Sportsbook online to make sure that you secure your sign up bonus before downloading the Apple app.

Barstool Sportsbook Promotions

We've said it before but Barstool Sportsbook promotions are more infrequent and less valuable than a lot of the promotions you'll get at other US betting sites.

After claiming up to $1000 in Barstool Sportsbook bonus cash through the Barstool Sportsbook sign up bonus, the most common promos you'll see are boosted odds offers in the Barstool Exclusives section as well as some unique bonus cash offers that often center around US pro leagues like the NBA and MLB and big international tournaments like the World Cup or Olympics.

Most Barstool Sportsbook promotions require a lot of real money bets to get a small amount of bonus cash back

The Barstool Sportsbook also has a loyalty program called mychoice where you can earn everything from Barstool merch to complimentary cruises, hotel stays, and VIP seating for sports and entertainment events.

Barstool sportsbook promotions

While they can be creative, Barstool Sportsbook promotions tend to be more infrequent and less valuable than the promos given by other US betting sites

Barstool Sportsbook Promos

Barstool Sportsbook Promo Code

While many Americans believe that the key to getting the Barstool Sportsbook sign up bonus is with a Barstool Sportsbook Promo Code but this is not true.

You do not need a Barstool Sportsbook Promo Code to get the Barstool Sportsbook sign up bonus.

In fact, you don't even need to opt into the promotion, if you lose your first bet then you'll get up to $1000 back as bonus cash - no action required!

Barstool Sportsbook Bonus Cash

Barstool Sportsbook bonus cash lets you place bets, without risking any of your own money.

When you win these bets you'll receive your winnings as withdrawable cash but you won't get your bonus cash bet amount back - this is standard practice.

Other betting sites may use the term 'bet credits' or 'free bets' instead of bonus cash but they work the same. Generally, you'll get Barstool Sportsbook bonus cash as part of bonuses and other promotional offers including the Barstool Sportsbook sign up bonus and other weekly offers for leagues such as the NBA, MLB, and NFL after you place qualifying bets.

Barstool Sportsbook Referral Bonus

Currently, there is no Barstool Sportsbook referral bonus.

Generally, referral bonuses are given out by generous betting sites or ones that want to increase their market share but because the Barstool Sportsbook relies on the Barstool Sports brand for much of their users we don't expect to see a Barstool Sportsbook refer-a-friend bonus anytime soon.

Barstool Sportsbook Deposit Bonus

There are no Barstool Sportsbook deposit bonuses available.

Deposit bonuses reward adding money to your account by supplementing it with additional bonus cash. Barstool Sportsbook promotions tend to require you to bet money as well as deposit and we have seen plenty more bonuses of this nature on the Barstool Sportsbook.

Barstool Sportsbook Exclusives

Barstool Sportsbook exclusives change daily but they include odds boosts and Bet With Barstool juiced offers where you get better odds for an outcome by following the predictions of different Barstool Sports personalities.

While Barstool Sportsbook exclusives are often unique to Barstool, they tend to be bets that you wouldn't ordinarily think of placing and therefore don't add a ton of value.

Barstool Sportsbook MyChoice Rewards

The Barstool Sportsbook loyalty program is called MyChoice.

You'll be rewarded with Barstool Sportsbook MyChoice tier points for every bet that you place and these can later be used to claim Barstool merch. Depending on how much you can bet you'll also get things like special Barstool Sportsbook promotions and offers, hotel and holiday discounts, and later VIP access to entertainment events, dinners, and hotels.

Barstool Sportsbook Payment Methods

Barstool Sportsbook has many of the most popular payment options but they have fewer in-person cash deposit and withdrawal options than many leading US sports betting sites.

The Barstool Sportsbook is one of the few US betting sites to support Apple Pay deposits

Overall, Barstool Sportsbook payment times are standard for the industry with deposits being processed instantly whereas withdrawal options take between a few hours and a week depending on your choice.

All Barstool Sportsbook payments are secured using industry-standard SSL-bit encryption technology to keep your money and ID information safe.

Barstool Sportsbook Deposit

Barstool Sportsbook deposit options include:

  • Visa and MasterCard
  • Apple Pay
  • Wire Transfer
  • PayNearMe
  • ACH/eCheck
  • PayPal
  • Online Banking
  • Barstool Sportsbook & Casino Play+ Card

The minimum Barstool Sportsbook deposit amount is $10 for all payment methods listed above.

Barstool Sportsbook Withdrawal

Barstool Sportsbook withdrawal options include:

  • ACH/eCheck
  • PayPal
  • Online Banking
  • Barstool Sportsbook & Casino Play+ Card
  • Check

The minimum Barstool Sportsbook withdrawal amount is $10 for all withdrawal methods except for Check which is $250.

Be aware that Barstool Sportsbook withdrawal processing times are dependent on factors like when you initiate a transfer (weekend withdrawals take more time) and if you are making your first withdrawal (first withdrawals are generally slower).

Barstool Sportsbook Verification

Mason Kelliher

Mason Kelliher

The Barstool Sportsbook will attempt to automatically verify your account based on the information that you provide when signing up. The Barstool Sportsbook uses the last four digits of your SSN and compares it to state records of your identity.

According to Barstool Sportsbook representatives that we spoke with, an estimated 10% of users need to provide additional sans or photos of additional information to complete the Barstool Sportsbook verification process manually.

Additional Barstool Sportsbook verification documents may include:

  • ID Documents like your Passport, State ID, or Driver's License
  • Proof of Address documents like a Bank Statement or Phone Bill
  • A selfie in which your ID or SSN is visible

Barstool Sportsbook States

There are 11 Barstool Sportsbook states where players can legally place bets on the Barstool Sportsbook: Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.

The Barstool Casino is legal in three of these states: Michigan, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.

In order for the Barstool Sportsbook to verify that you're are in a Barstool Sportsbook state, you must have your geolocation turned on when using the website or sports betting app.

One nice thing about Barstool is that no matter what Barstool Sportsbook state you are in, the website and app are the same for all users so even if you visit a different legal state you do not need to visit a new webpage or download a new app.

The Barstool Sportsbook has plans to launch in all US legal betting states by the end of 2021 and we will update this page as that happens.

Barstool Sportsbook Legal States

Barstool Sportsbook Customer Service

After contacting the Barstool Sportsbook customer service team a number of times we found that on the whole, they were helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable.

Disappointingly, there is no Barstool Sportsbook phone number to call but you can request a  Barstool Sportsbook callback which saves waiting on hold.

Like most US Sportsbooks, the Barstool Sportsbook has an FAQ section which can be found in the Barstool Sportsbook menu.

We did however think that some of the FAQ answers were a little thin and didn't provide all the information you might want.

Barstool Casino

The Barstool Casino is a decent choice for any player who wants to take a break from sports betting but it's not a great option if you are interested in a long-term online casino option.

The Barstool Casino has a small mix of game types including online slots, jackpots, poker, roulette, blackjack, baccarat, and video poker with a couple of live dealer options for each of the table games mentioned.

The Barstool Casino is legal in Michigan, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.

Barstool Casino game providers include legit industry leaders like IGT and NetEnt so you can be sure that all games are fair and not rigged.

All in all, we expected more from an online casino bought to us by an industry leader like Penn National Gaming but there are enough options available for casual players.

Barstool online casino min

The Barstool Casino is a nice addition to the Barstool Sportsbook but as a stand-alone product it needs some work

Your Barstool Casino bonus cash must be wagered at least 5 times on slot games or 25 times on table games or video poker before your winnings can be withdrawn. You'll have 30 days to wager your bonus cash before it expires.

Barstool Casino App

The Barstool Sportsbook & Casino are combined into one app meaning that if you're in Michigan or Pennsylvania you can use the same Barstool app for betting on sports and playing casino games.

The Barstool Casino app can be downloaded from the Google Play Store or App Store

We don't have much to say about the Barstool casino app, it works well and is easy to navigate and use but it doesn't have as many game options as other US online casino apps.

Barstool Sportsbook Overview

Barstool Sportsbook

Barstool Sportsbook Bonus Offers - 9/10

The Barstool Sportsbook sign up bonus is great, with up to $1000 back on your first bet if it loses.

Barstool Sportsbook Betting Variety - 8/10

The Barstool Sportsbook has a wide range of betting options covering many US and international sports but you'll definitely find more options available for US sports with some markets only offering futures and money line bets. We'd like to see even more markets and sports betting options.

Barstool Sportsbook Mobile Experience - 9/10

The Barstool Sportsbook app is a great compliment to the barstool Sportsbook website and is designed very similarly making the switch from website to app simple. Overall, it's fast, simple and great for beginners but lacks in the same area as the website.

Barstool Sportsbook Payment Options - 8/10

Barstool Sportsbook's payment options are a little more limited than for other US betting sites with the noticeable omission of any cash deposit or withdrawal options. Still, there's enough there suit most players.

Barstool Sportsbook Betting Experience - 8/10

The Barstool sportsbook looks good and is easy to use. If you're a Stoolie, you'll probably love it but other players might want to see more features, slightly higher odds, and more betting options. We'd especially appreciate more live betting markets, play-by-play stats, and more Same Game Parlay options.

Barstool Sportsbook Customer Service - 9/10

The Barstool Sportsbook customer service team is helpful and knowledgeable so we have no complaints there but we would appreciate a phone number to call.

BetRivers Sportsbook Rating - 9/10

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

The Barstool Sportsbook has quickly become one of Pennsylvania's most popular betting sites, in a large part due to the popularity of the Barstool Sports brand. While the betting site as a whole should satisfy most casual players, when we compare it to the best betting sites in the USA, there's room for improvement.

Especially noticeable is the Barstool Sportsbook's lack of live betting features and options, smaller range of bets, and less frequent promotions. For betting sites that ticks all the boxes, consider PointsBet, Bet365, and Unibet.
