Overview of Sports Betting in Switzerland

  • Although a heavily regulated market, there are still viable options for Swiss players to place their bets online with international bookmakers.
  • The Swiss government has denied bettors access to foreign betting sites in order to protect citizens from gambling addiction.
  • However, many European betting sites still accept players from Switzerland, and some even offer welcome offers in CHF.

Swiss Betting Sites FAQs

All of the information you need regarding betting sites in Switzerland can be found on this page. If you prefer the quick version, just read these FAQs

Is online betting legal in Switzerland?

Yes and no. In June 2018, 73% of voters said yes to the new 'Gambling Act' which meant that the Swiss government could block foreign betting sites.

However, there is no law stopping citizens from playing at these sites outside of Switzerland.

It is not uncommon for Swiss bettors to use a VPN as a workaround, but this is not necessarily something we recommend.

Which betting sites allow Swiss players?

Despite the laws in Switzerland, many international bookmakers allow Swiss players to sign up, including:

Can I use CHF on betting sites?

It depends on the bookmaker.

Some betting sites have a welcome bonus in Swiss francs and allow you to play in that currency from then on, whereas others might just have one or the other.

If the bookie doesn't have Swiss francs, you'll likely just have to play with Euros, which shouldn't be too much of a problem for Swiss players.

How can I deposit on Swiss betting sites?

You can use Visa or MasterCard on pretty much all online betting sites, but some also offer Skrill, Neteller, Bitcoin, PayPal, paysafecard, ecoPayz, and plenty of other options.

Can I trust online betting sites?

If the bookmaker is listed on this page, then you can 100% trust them. Since launching Bookies Bonuses in 2009, we have only ever listed safe and secure betting sites.

How do I claim a welcome bonus?

Fortunately, betting sites make it very easy to claim their sign up offer when you register.

Simply click one of the 'Claim' buttons in the lists on this page and follow the steps outlined on the landing page.

Bookmakers for Swiss Players

As a Swiss citizen, you have plenty of betting options despite the Gambling Act of 2019.

You have access to Bet365 and 22bet, both of which have a huge global presence, or alternatively, you can opt for a bookmaker like Interwetten or Bahigo, where the Swiss market is a bigger priority.

We could make a case for any of the Swiss betting sites on our list, and that's why we've highlighted their unique selling points so that you can make an informed decision.

Betting in Switzerland: Regulations

There is no law forbidding Swiss citizens to place bets with online bookmakers. However, the government has made it more difficult in recent years.

In July 2019, the Gambling Act came into effect and blocked international betting sites in Switzerland.

And in September of the same year, Swiss internet users were denied access to several bookmakers via DNS blocks from Swiss internet providers.

More on The Gambling Act

The Gambling Act of 2019 states that lotteries held within Swiss borders are tax-free, which was not the case before.

Smaller poker tournaments can be arranged in private under the new law. However, there is still a need for a permit if a Swiss citizen would like to arrange such an event.

The aim of the Swiss government - gambling addiction aside - is to keep the vast amount of money that bettors lose within the country.

Whether you go outside Swiss borders to place bets or use a VPN, you can still place wagers as a Swiss citizen and face no penalty. You may wish to consult a lawyer before doing so, though.

How to Choose a Swiss Betting Site

There are always country-specific factors to consider when choosing a betting site, and Switzerland is no exception.

Normally, these include betting variety, payment methods, currencies, and bonus offers.

Some betting sites may offer the best odds or the nicest interface, but that's no good if they don't offer your preferred banking option or have a site that is not optimised for your preferred device.

Compare swiss betting sites

We compare Swiss betting sites and tell you what you should look for.

Availability

This is the most important factor. If the betting site doesn't allow Swiss citizens to register, then it is of absolutely no use.

All of the betting sites listed on this page are available to people from Switzerland.

Betting Offers

Swiss players can often enjoy generous welcome offers, in a similar fashion to other European players.

There are two main types of welcome offers: either a deposit bonus or free bets.

Both can be beneficial, but deposit bonuses require a bit more effort because of the turnover requirements.

💰 How deposit bonuses work

A deposit bonus is exactly what it sounds like: a bonus that you receive after making your first deposit on a betting site.

Most offers of this kind in Switzerland are matched deposit bonuses, meaning you get a 100% bonus when you make your deposit.

So, if a bookmaker is promoting a deposit bonus worth 100% up to CHF400, that means that if you deposit CHF400, you will receive CHF400.

That bonus money is not yours to withdraw straight away, though.

The wagering requirements will indicate how many times you need to turn that money over before it becomes withdrawable as cash.

💸 How free bets work

Nine times out of 10, free bet welcome offers are the most straightforward.

You usually just need to place a bet that meets the specified requirements (minimum odds, eligible markets, number of selections) and you will then receive a free bet upon settlement of your qualifying bet.

Normally, these bonuses are smaller in value, but still arguably better overall because of the lack of wagering requirements.

Payment Methods

The most common payment methods are Visa and MasterCard, but PayPal is now in the mix, as well as other eWallets or even prepaid cards such as Paysafecard.

In countries with similar legislation to Switzerland, for example in Norway, the authorities have made it illegal for banks to transfer funds between private citizens and iGaming (betting sites and casinos) operators.

This means that credit cards issued by the bank, or direct bank transfers are hard to use for transactions. Luckily, this is not yet the case in Switzerland.

💳 Swiss bookmaker payment methods

  • PayPal
  • Visa
  • MasterCard
  • Maestro
  • Diners Club
  • VPay
  • MuchBetter
  • Klarna
  • Sofort
  • Paysafecard
  • ecoPayz
  • Neteller
  • Skrill
  • Skrill 1-Tap
  • EPS Wire Transfer
  • Bank Transfer
  • Interac
  • Trustly
  • Ethereum
  • Litecoin
  • Bitcoin
  • paysafecard
  • Jeton

*Don't expect to see all of these payment methods on every betting site!

CHF Deposits

This might be an important factor for some Swiss players, and there are some bookies that offer deposits in CHF.

But seeing as all other betting sites should at least allow you to play in Euros, this shouldn't matter too much.

Even though many betting sites are wary of causing incidents with the Swiss authorities, they often allow deposits and offer welcome offers in Swiss francs.

Mobile Betting

Betting via mobile has increased in popularity in recent years and it's no surprise that most top bookmakers are placing a lot of emphasis on their mobile offering.

Many do that in the shape of an app for iOS and Android, but some bookmakers still have a well-optimised mobile product even without an app.

22bet download mobile app

22bet has one of the best mobile apps for Swiss players.

Languages

Most international betting sites are very good at offering several language options to their players, and German, Italian, French, English, and Portuguese are offered in many cases.

Find out more in your language

Through the below links, you can learn about Swiss betting sites in your preferred language.

Customer Support

Ideally, each bookmaker would have 24/7 live chat and a telephone support option, but sadly this isn't always the case, especially with less established bookies.

You also want customer support in your first language, which again, is not universally offered.

Three of the Best

22bet Switzerland

100% up to €122

22bet is one of the most popular online bookmakers worldwide and the site is widely available across Europe, Asia, Africa, and other parts of the world.

What We Like About 22bet

⭐ You can claim the 22bet welcome bonus in Swiss francs.

⭐ There are loads of game types to pick from, including sports betting, casino, jackpots, bingo, and more.

⭐ The selection of markets for the Swiss Super League is much greater than other betting sites.

What We Don't Like About 22bet

⛔ There is no telephone number for Swiss players to call customer support at 22bet.

⛔ Withdrawal times can be slow if you opt for a bank transfer.

Should You Register With 22bet Switzerland?

Yes. There is a reason 22bet has managed to attract so many customers worldwide, and it is largely down to the fact that they cater to bettors everywhere by offering one of the biggest selections of markets you'll ever see.

The fact that you can claim a terrific bonus and play in Swiss francs makes it even more of a no-brainer.

Interwetten Switzerland

Up to €200 bonus

Interwetten was only the second company on the planet to offer online sports betting, and since the website launched in 1997, it has been one of the prominent bookmakers in Europe.

What We Like About Interwetten

⭐ Play in Swiss francs on this betting site which has a heavy focus on Switzerland and other countries where the German language is prevalent.

⭐ The range of markets is very impressive - even for sports that aren't as mainstream as football and tennis.

⭐ Interwetten has an outstanding reputation and has maintained a high standard across three decades.

What We Don't Like About Interwetten

⛔ The customer support process could be a little more seamless.

⛔ There is no 'bet builder' option for football, so you cannot make your own custom wager.

Should You Register With Interwetten Switzerland?

Interwetten is an easy recommendation from us. Even though 22bet is a great choice for Swiss players and perhaps more complete overall, Interwetten feels a bit more aimed specifically towards bettors from Switzerland.

Everybody in the DACH region is familiar with Interwetten, so if that extra trustworthiness is a big factor for you, then look no further.

Rabona Switzerland

100% up to €200

Rabona is a relative newcomer to the online gambling space but it is already making a splash in many markets, including Switzerland.

What We Like About Rabona

⭐ Rabona has a terrific football betting offering and that includes a bet builder function.

⭐ There is a fresh, modern feel to the site and it is clear that the technology used is at a high level.

⭐ The welcome bonus is very lucrative, and there are lots of other promotions to claim afterwards.

What We Don't Like About Rabona

⛔ Rabona doesn't have a great deal of experience, unlike Interwetten.

⛔ Switzerland isn't really a big focus for this brand.

Should You Register With Rabona Switzerland?

The bettors at Bookies Bonuses have had excellent experiences with Rabona - largely because of the football betting markets and all of the intriguing promotions.

But there is no doubt that some prefer a more classic, reputable bookie, so it all comes down to which side of the fence you sit on.

How to Bet Online in Switzerland

The process of betting online as a Swiss player can be straightforward. Of course, the barriers enforced as a result of the Gambling Act of 2019 have caused difficulties, but you still options - especially if you aren't physically located in Switzerland.

1

Choose a bookmaker

On this page, there are plenty of online betting sites that you can pick from as a Swiss player.

We have broken down the pros and cons of each bookmaker so that you can make your own mind up as to which one suits you best.

If in doubt, you can't go wrong with simply picking the one with the biggest bonus!

When you've decided which one you want to register with, simply click the 'Claim' button and you will taken straight to where you need to be.

2

Set up an account

When making your account, you will need to provide the following details:

  • Name
  • Nationality
  • Date of birth
  • Email address
  • Address
  • Set a username/password

Other details may also be required, and once this has been done, you can go ahead and claim the bonus/make a deposit.

NOTE: At this point, you might need a VPN if you are not already outside of Switzerland.

3

Make a deposit

You can use your Visa or MasterCard, but on many betting sites there is also the option to use PayPal or eWallets, such as Neteller or Skrill.

Prepaid cards such as paysafecard are commonly seen among online bookmakers now, and even cryptocurrencies have begun to surface.

  • The CHF (€) is accepted by some, but not all online betting sites.
  • Your minimum deposit amount is likely to be CHF10 or €10.
  • Transactions should not incur a charge, but this can depend on the payment provider.
4

Place your bets

This is the fun bit!

Once your account is loaded with funds and perhaps with a bonus under your belt as well, you can lock in your wagers.

Such has been the development of online betting sites in recent years, there are thousands of markets available every day, and tons of different bet types.

You can wager on everything from Swiss Super League football to Czech women's volleyball.

TIP: Odds will vary across each betting site, so if you are registered with more than one, always bet on the one with the best odds!

5

Make a withdrawal

Before making a withdrawal, you will likely have to verify your identity. The process normally includes you sending in copies or scans of documents like your ID and a utility bill.

These are sent to customer support or uploaded to the site. Once documents have been approved, funds can be withdrawn.

The reason for this is that bookmakers must adhere to laws regarding money laundering. They must be sure that they send money to the correct person.

In some instances, fees are added to the withdrawal, but this is not the case with all betting sites and payment providers.

Final Verdict

Author's recommendation

On this page, you've been shown all of the best bookmakers that are available to Swiss players, and hopefully, you understand the regulations around online betting in Switzerland.

So, if you're still keen to register with a Swiss betting site and start placing wagers, I suggest you take on board the points we have mentioned for each betting site and make your decision based on that.

22bet, Interwetten, Rabona, and Bet365 are all towards the top of our list and with good reason.

To be honest, you can't go wrong with any of those. My personal favourite is Bet365 - but that's coming from someone who wants to bet at a more advanced level.

When I'm looking to take a more casual approach, I would side with Interwetten, who put Swiss players at the forefront of their priorities.
