Loterie Romande and Swisslos are the only legal betting sites in Switzerland, but many Swiss players choose to use international betting sites instead.

If you’re considering using an offshore betting site yourself, here’s what you need to know:

The Swiss Gambling Act says you aren't breaking the law by using unlicensed bookmakers. That said, you’re doing so at your own risk, so it’s really important to pick a trustworthy betting site.

To help you out, our team regularly tests the most popular international bookmakers that accept Swiss players and selects the best options.

While the Gambling Act has made it slightly more difficult for bettors in Switzerland to access high-quality betting sites, there are still plenty of excellent options available, as you'll discover on this page.

If you live in Switzerland, you have two main options when it comes to online sports betting: you can either choose the official, regulated operators, or international betting sites that accept Swiss players.

  1. If you prefer to stick with fully legal Swiss betting sites, your options depend on where you live. Swisslos (operating Sporttip) serves the German-speaking cantons, Ticino, and Lichtenstein, while Loterie Romande (operating Jouez Sport) covers the French-speaking regions.
  2. If you'd rather use one of the international betting sites that accept Swiss players, you’ll find plenty of options, from global giants like Bet365 and 20bet to DACH-focused specialists such as Interwetten, Wettigo, and Bahigo.

As of June 2026, the best betting sites in Switzerland are Wettigo, Bet365, Bahigo, Interwetten, 20Bet, and BetLabel.

We've broken down what makes each site worth considering, so you can find the one that works best for you.

Best betting apps in Switzerland

Best betting apps

Installing betting apps in Switzerland takes some extra effort, but it's totally worth it.

Downloading betting apps in Switzerland isn't as straightforward as it is in other countries due to the country's gambling regulations, but it's still possible. We've reviewed the most popular betting sites available to Swiss players and compiled a list of those that advertise dedicated mobile apps on their websites:

  • Swisslos: iOS and Android apps available
  • The Loterie Romande: iOS and Android apps available
  • Bahigo: iOS and Android apps available
  • 20Bet: iOS and Android apps available
  • Interwetten: iOS and Android apps available
  • Betlabel: iOS and Android apps available
  • GG.Bet: iOS and Android apps available
  • 1Bet: Android app available

Most betting apps aren't available through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store in Switzerland. Instead, you'll usually need to download the app directly from the bookmaker's website or, in the case of Android devices, install an APK file.

Many bookmakers make this process easier by providing a QR code on their website. Simply scan the code with your mobile device to access the download page and install the latest version of the app.

If you'd rather not install an app, most bookmakers also offer fully mobile-optimised websites that provide a very similar experience.

If a bookmaker doesn't offer an app for your device, you can add its mobile site to your home screen instead:
  1. Open the bookmaker's website in your mobile browser.
  2. Wait for the page to load completely.
  3. Tap the 'Share' button.
  4. Select 'Add to Home Screen'.
  5. Click 'Add' to confirm.
  6. The betting site will now appear on your home screen and can be used just like a regular app.

Online sports betting in Switzerland 101

Online betting 101

Now that you have a clear understanding of the best betting sites in Switzerland, let's delve into everything else you need to know about online betting in the country.

Online sports betting is legal in Switzerland, but the market is tightly regulated.

At the moment, there are only two licensed operators: Swisslos (operating Sporttip) and Loterie Romande (operating Jouez Sport).

Because legal options are so limited, many Swiss bettors turn to international betting sites, which often offer better odds, more promotions, and a wider selection of markets.

Can You Use Offshore Betting Sites in Switzerland?

Technically, yes. According to Gespa, Swiss players aren’t breaking any laws by using international betting sites.

That said, accessing these sites can sometimes be tricky. Many are blocked in Switzerland, which is why operators regularly change their URLs to remain accessible.

To help you out, we monitor these changes closely and keep all the links on this page up to date.

10 Things You Need to Know Before Betting in Switzerland

  1. You must be at least 18 years old to bet online legally in Switzerland.
  2. Only Swisslos (Sporttip) and Loterie Romande (Jouez Sport) are officially licensed by Gespa, the Swiss Gambling Supervisory Authority.
  3. Sporttip is available only to residents of German-speaking Switzerland, Ticino, and Liechtenstein, while Jouez Sport is reserved for those living in French-speaking Switzerland.
  4. International betting sites are not licensed in Switzerland, but Swiss residents can still use them without facing any legal consequences.
  5. So far, there haven’t been any reports of Swiss players getting into trouble for using foreign betting sites. That said, if you want to play it safe, it’s never a bad idea to check with a lawyer before signing up or depositing money.
  6. The Swiss government uses DNS blocks to limit access to foreign betting sites.
  7. Despite this, many offshore bookmakers still accept players from Switzerland and even offer welcome bonuses in Swiss francs (CHF) .
  8. Winnings from Swiss-licensed operators are tax-free up to CHF 1,070,400.
  9. Winnings from foreign bookmakers must be fully declared and taxed as income, even if the bets were placed abroad.
  10. Even though payment blocking didn’t make it into the final law, our advice is to stick with e-wallets (such as Skrill or Neteller) or prepaid cards (like Paysafecard) to be on the safe side.

Local vs Offshore Betting Sites

With just two legal betting sites in Switzerland, international bookmakers have become a popular alternative among Swiss punters. Here’s a quick look at the pros and cons.

👍 Advantages of Using International Betting Sites

  • Attractive welcome bonuses: International bookmakers often give big welcome bonuses to attract new players.
  • Frequent promotions: Many bookies keep existing players coming back with ongoing deals and bonuses.
  • Better odds: Odds are usually higher across all match outcomes, offering better value for money.
  • More sports to bet on: International betting sites generally cover more sports, including niche competitions, virtual sports, and e-sports.
  • More betting markets: You’ll often find more ways to bet on a single event, whereas Swiss-licensed sites cannot offer bets on some smaller competitions or lower leagues.

👎 Disadvantages of Using International Betting Sites

  • No Swiss license: You don’t have legal protection if something goes wrong, and there’s no guarantee of payout in case of disputes. Swiss authorities also cannot enforce anti-gambling addiction measures.
  • Limited access: DNS blocks and frequent domain changes can make it harder to reach these sites.
  • Taxable winnings: All winnings are fully taxable from the first franc. In contrast, using a licensed Swiss betting site comes with a tax-free allowance of CHF 1,070,400.

Frequently Asked Questions about sports betting in Switzerland

Is online betting legal in Switzerland?

Yes, online betting is legal in Switzerland, but international betting sites are not.

The act of betting on sports online has been legalised for the state-owned sites, but international betting sites have not been granted official permission to offer any gambling services to Swiss residents.

It's important to note that while Switzerland prohibits foreign bookmakers from offering their services in the country, individual bettors don't face criminal prosecution for their gambling activities.

Even though there is no law forbidding Swiss residents to place bets with offshore bookmakers, the government has made it more difficult to do so in recent years. Because of that, it is not uncommon for Swiss bettors to use a VPN as a workaround, but this is not necessarily something we recommend.

Moreover, payment blocking is not enforced under the Gaming Act, allowing Swiss punters to continue accessing internationally licenced sports betting sites.

What are the best betting sites accept that Swiss players?

Despite the laws in Switzerland, many international bookmakers allow Swiss residents to sign up, including:

  • Wettigo Switzerland - Brand new bookmaker
  • 22bet Switzerland - Bonuses in Swiss francs
  • Bet365 Switzerland - Best overall variety
  • Bahigo Switzerland - Heavy Swiss focus
  • Sportaza Switzerland - Very easy to use
  • Sultanbet Switzerland - Largest bonus amount
  • 1Bet Switzerland - 'Build a bet' for football
  • Interwetten Switzerland - Experienced and reliable bookie
  • Wazamba Switzerland - Many accepted payment methods
  • PlayZilla Switzerland - Balance between sports and casino
  • Rabona Switzerland - Great football selection
Can I use CHF on betting sites?

It depends on the bookmaker.

Some betting sites have a welcome bonus in Swiss francs and allow you to deposit in that currency and play with it from then on, whereas others accept the Euro or US dollars even.

Here are the best betting sites that accept Swiss francs:

Which payment methods are available in Switzerland?

The most common payment methods in Switzerland are Visa and MasterCard, but PayPal is now in the mix, as well as other eWallets or even prepaid cards such as Paysafecard.

In countries with similar legislation to Switzerland, for example in Norway, the authorities have made it illegal for banks to transfer funds between private citizens and iGaming (betting sites and casinos) operators. This means that credit cards issued by the bank, or direct bank transfers are hard to use for transactions. Luckily, this is not yet the case in Switzerland as payment blocking is not allowed under the Swiss Gaming Act.

However, we would still advise you to use an electronic wallet such as Skrill and Neteller, or prepaid cards like Paysafecard and Jeton, to be on the safe side.

Can I trust online betting sites in Switzerland?

If the bookmaker is listed on this page, that means they hold a licence from at least one country. Since launching Bookies Bonuses in 2009, we have only ever listed betting sites we have tried and are comfortable with.

Our top 5 favourite betting sites in Switzerland are:

You can also check out our individual reviews of each bookmaker and see our opinion of it.

Why use international betting sites?

Local, state-owned betting sites often have fewer sports options, worse odds, and no welcome bonuses.

On the other hand, many international betting sites, for example big names such as bet365 and 22bet, accept players who reside in Switzerland and offer them generous sign-up bonuses.

If you decide to bet with betting sites based abroad, you will likely have more betting options, enticing bonuses and promotions, and exciting functions such as "bet builder", "cash out" and livestreaming, which make for a better playing experience overall.

What are the best Paysafecard betting sites in Switzerland?

Paysafecard is one of our favourite payment methods in Switzerland. Not only is it incredibly convenient, but it also provides you with a secure and private financial transactions. Here are some of the best Swiss bookmakers that accept Paysafecard payments:

What is a deposit bonus and what are the best ones in Switzerland?

A deposit bonus is exactly what it sounds like: a bonus that you receive after making your first deposit on a betting site.

Most offers of this kind in Switzerland are matched deposit bonuses, meaning you get a 100% bonus when you make your deposit.

So, if a bookmaker is promoting a deposit bonus worth 100% up to CHF400, that means that if you deposit CHF400, you will receive CHF400 and if you only deposit CHF20 you will get CHF20 as a bonus.

That bonus money is not yours to withdraw straight away, though.

The wagering requirements will indicate how many times you need to turn that money over before it becomes withdrawable as cash.

Some of the best deposit bonuses in Switzerland are:

  • Wettigo: 100% up to CHF 500 on unlimited deposits
  • Bet365: 100% up to EUR 100 in bet credits
  • Interwetten: 100% up to EUR 200
  • 22Bet: 100% up to CHF 122
  • 20Bet: 100% up to EUR 1000
What are free bet welcome offers and do any betting sites in Switzerland offer them?

Nine times out of 10, free bet welcome offers are the most straightforward.

You usually just need to place a bet that meets the specified requirements (minimum odds, eligible markets, number of selections) and you will then receive a free bet upon settlement of your qualifying bet.

Normally, these bonuses are smaller in value, but still arguably better overall because of the lack of wagering requirements.

Some of the best free bet welcome offers in Switzerland are:

  • Bet365: 100% up to EUR 100 in bet credits
  • Bahigo: Up to CHF 100 in free bets along with the 100% up to CHF 400 bonus
  • FoggyBet: EUR 25 free bet
What are wagering requirements?

We've mentioned wagering requirements quite a few times on this page, but if you are unsure of what they mean, pay attention.

Also known as turnover, rollover, or playthrough, wagering requirements are the total amount of money you must spend before you can withdraw your bonus.

For example, if you claim the Sportaza bonus and deposit 200 CHF you will receive 200 as bonus money.

Then you will have to play through the (deposit + bonus) amount 5 times, meaning 2000 CHF in total at minimum odds of 1.50, before you are allowed to withdraw your winnings.

But how can you bet 2000 if you only have 200 deposit + 200 bonus?

By betting, winning and betting what you won again, until the amount you have bet with your account since opening it reaches 2000.

Expert Recommendations: Final verdict

Oliver's take and recommendations

Olivér Faragó
Olivér Faragó

I believe the future is looking bright for Swiss bettors.

Eventually I hope regulations are set in place that do not discourage, but rather allow for healthy competition in the betting sphere.

Other European countries such as Germany, Netherlands, Sweden, and so on have managed to strike a healthy balance of keeping their citizens' funds within the boarders by having proper taxation, that does not totally eliminate the purpose of running a business.

As for my recommendations, I am a big fan of Wettigo for their welcome offer, Sportaza for their abundance of sport options and PlayZilla for the mix of a great sportsbook and nice website interface.

On this page, you've been shown all of the best bookmakers that are available to Swiss players, and hopefully, you understand the regulations around online betting in Switzerland.

So, if you're still keen to register with a Swiss betting site and start placing wagers, I suggest you take on board the points we have mentioned for each betting site and make your decision based on that.

22bet, Interwetten, Wettigo, and Bet365 are all towards the top of our list and with good reason.

To be honest, you can't go wrong with any of those. My personal favourite is Bet365—but that's coming from someone who wants to bet at a more advanced level.

When I'm looking to take a more casual approach, I would side with Sportaza or Bahigo, who put Swiss players at the forefront of their priorities.
