The Masters - Boyle Sports Boosts

It's April and that means we have the first Major event of the Golfing year, with the 2026 Masters at Augusta National, with players hoping to create history and slip on the famous green jacket on Sunday evening.

Augusta National course plays to a par of 72, at over 7,565 yards and provides one of the biggest tests of any golf player, with unforgiving fairways, huge testing greens and the famous "Amen Corner", with holes 11, 12 and 13 capable of ruining a good round.

The venue was opened in 1932, and originally designed by Bobby Jones and Alister MacKenzie. Over the years, the course which has hosted the event since 1934 has been extended some 700+ yards between the 1940's and the modern day, to maintain the test of all players.

The course record is jointly held by Nick Price (1986) and Greg Norman (1996), who shot a -9 under par round of 63, while the overall tournament record is -20 under par, set by Dustin Johnson in 2020, beating the previous record (-18 under par) held by Tiger Woods from 1997.

The defending champion is Rory McIlroy (10/1), who beat Justin Rose in a play-off to secure his career Grand Slam. Looked solid over the Winter and into the new season, where he bagged a T2 at the Genesis Invitational, but has struggled with a back issue since. A T46 at the Players Championship isn't an ideal prep, while a near month off doesn't offer much encouragement either.

Scottie Scheffler (5/1) is the unsurprising favourite here, having won the event twice so far. However, after such a dominant run of results, his form has dipped slightly, with a T24 and T22 in recent outings. If he can get his iron game back to where it can be, he will be in the hunt for a third green jacket.

Bryson DeChambeau (9/1) is arguably the biggest of the LIV threats to take the green jacket, with his golfing maturity earning a T6 and T5 finish in the last two years. The American has won his last two LIV events and with his ability to hit long and accurately, he has the tools to take a win here.

Jon Rahm (9/1) is a previous winner here and has an enviable record, making all nine cuts at the tournament, including five Top 10s and the win in 2023. The Spaniard has Top 5s in his last four LIV events, including a victory and at a venue he clearly enjoys, he will surely be in the mix once again

Xander Schauffele (11/1) has placed in the Top 10 on five occasions at Augusta, while recent form (three Top 10s in four starts) offers further encouragement. Plays the course well and has no fear, which could be the perfect combination for finally grabbing a green jacket and adding himself to the annals of Masters history.
