George Russell and Kimi Antonelli made it a Mercedes' 1-2 at Melbourne, with Ferrar's Charl Leclerc completing the podium, ahead of team-mate Lewis Hamilton.

The new regulations have made for interesting racing, with cars dropping speed on the straight as battery management becomes crucial for drivers. Yes, there was more overtaking, but the general consensus among fans and drivers, is that the improved number is contrived by the rules rather than driver skill.   

Arvind Linblad had a points finish on debut, while Oscar Piastri crashed on the warm-up to kill his race before it even begun, while team-mate and World Champion, Lando Norris placed fifth, ahead of Max Verstappen in sixth.

Chinese Grand Prix

The Shanghai circuit will be another test of battery management for drivers, but off the back of the opening contest in Melbourne, both Mercedes and Ferrari have plenty to build upon, as they look to establish their credentials for a shot at the championship.

The McLarens finished 1-2 last year, but this looks unlikely based on the opening weekend, but if George Russell in the Mercedes can bag a second consecutive win, the Brit will be the man to catch over the course of this long season.
