Eurovision 2025

Between May 13th and May 17th, the Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Basel, Switzerland. The long-running event will hold its 69th edition, as 36 European nations and guest entry Australia battle it out over two semi-finals, before the grand final on Saturday, with an expected audience of 160 million+ viewers tuning in.

Eurovision has become one of the most popular non-sporting betting events in the UK in recent years, but what exactly can you bet on?

Outright Winner

As simple as it sounds, "just" pick the winner and place a bet! Players can bet on the winner of each semi-final or the final itself. 

Each-Way Betting

This is an extended outright bet across two stake amounts, with one paying out for the winner and the other paying out for a Top 4 finish, usually at reduced odds, and is a useful bet for nations that you think could win or go close.

Top 5 or Top 10 Finish

Similar to the Outright, with the only stipulation that your choice of nation finishes within the specified positions. This bet is a great way to back outsiders, this offers reduced odds compared to an outright win bet.

Points Total

With mass voting in the final, players can bet on the total points a nation will receive at the end of voting. This can be in the guise of an Under/Over bet or a ranged bet, where you decide if the nation in question can meet a points threshold as determined by the bookmaker.

Fantasy Match-Up

Bookmakers create a mini contest between groups of nations based on region or other criteria, such as the highest-placed Balkan or Scandinavian nation. A popular market within this is the "Big 5" market, which is dedicated to the five nations that automatically enter the final (France, Germany, Italy, Spain & United Kingdom)

Success at Eurovision isn't just about luck, as the winning formula is developed over time, with Ireland's five victories between 1987-1996 a prime example of understanding what is needed to win. Over the last 13 years, Sweden (current favourites) has won three times and placed in the top five on six occasions, so it's good to see how nations have fared over the years.

Odds Trends

Odds compilers are usually pretty accurate in predicting the Eurovision winner, having been on the money over the last three years. Italy's Måneskin, were the last to buck this trend in 2021, winning as fifth favourites for the event at around 12/1.

There is arguably a little more value to be had with Top 10 bets, with three of the last four Eurovision events, seeing six of the top ten nations in the outright betting market finishing within the top 10, offering the potential to look further down the list for more value.
