Euro 2024 Outright Winner

England entered Euro 2024 as favourites to win, having missed out on penalties to Italy in the 2021 Final at Wembley.

The previous holders, Italy, were not viewed favourably by bookmakers to retain their title, with the Azzurri slowly rebuilding following that win. At the beginning of the tournament France went in as narrow second favourites, with Kylian Mbappe and co expected to go deep once again, while hosts Germany were third favourites, due in part to some patchy form over the last 12 months.

Elsewhere, Scotland were outsiders at 500/1, as the Tartan Army caused no surprise in the tournament's opening match against the hosts, Germany. Bookmakers' expectations were met, as the Scottish team fell through in the group stages.

Golden Boot / Top Scorer

The Golden Boot was a fascinating contest, with Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappe, Alvaro Morata and one Cristiano Ronaldo among those battling for top honours.

Outside of those, Jamal Musiala and Kai Havertz were the favourites in this market for Germany. But as the hosts dropped off the competition before the semis, so did any hopes fans could have harboured.

Some bookmakers offered odds on the Golden Boot market, with most offering 4 places for each-way backers.

England Top Scorer

England was hoping to go one better in this year's tournament, with captain Harry Kane unsurprisingly the favourite to be the Three Lions top scorer in the tournament.

Kane's form for Bayern Munich has been extremely impressive, but he has had a habit of starting tournament finals slowly in the past and scored just twice in the 2022 World Cup Finals, so there was some room for the likes of Arsenal's Bukayo Saka or Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham to give the England captain a run for his money this time around.

The England Top Scorers in Euro 2024 are as follows:

  1. Harry Kane - 3 Goals
  2. Jude Bellingham - 2 Goals
  3. Bukayo Saka - 1 Goal

EURO 2024 FINAL | Spain v England (14th July) Result: 2-1

After a full month of intense matches, the finalists were finally decided.

In this fateful match, the Red Fury stood tall against the Three Lions to become the ultimate football champions.

Netherlands v England (10th July) Result: 1-2

The second pair in the semi-finals, team Oranje met the Three Lions to determine who will stand against Spain in the final of the European Championship.

England fans were hopeful and excited, as the Lions have had what seems like too many 'clutch' situations.

And indeed, the chance of reaching the final almost slipped through the England team's fingers.

Spain v France (9th July) Result: 2-1

First teams to make it to the semi-final, The Red Fury faced Les Blues, in an almost poetic duo of colours 🟥🟦.

This match gave us the youngest star to ever score in a Euro Cup - Lamine Yamal almost 17 at the time.

Netherlands v Turkiye (6th July) Result: 2-1

After the Crescent-Stars pulled off that upset against Austria, they have definitely earned the respect they deserve.

However, the Orange team didn't rest on their laurels, as tough competition awaited them that Saturday. In the last 15 minutes, the Dutch took the lead and sealed the deal 2-1.

England v Switzerland (6th July) Result: 1-1 (5)-(3)

England had to play hard, as a lot was at stake in this game. Switzerland's defense, as expected was strong. After a draw in the last minutes of the match, England won the penalty shootout to qualify for the semi-final.

As for Switzerland, this was yet another major tournament in which they fell through before reaching the semis.

Portugal v France (5th July) Result: 0-0 (3)-(5)

What is it with Portugal and penalties? The match, a draw, ended with France scoring 5 times, while Portugal only found the back of the net 3 times during the penalty shootout.

Spain v Germany (5th July) Result: 2-1

Spain finally faced the hosts, in the opening match of the quarter-finals.

Both teams showed some teeth for chance at the semis, but in the very last minutes of the match, Spain scored a second goal and sealed the deal.

The hosts won't be competing for the trophy.

Austria v Turkey (2nd July) Result: 1-2

The final of the round of 16 saw Austria face Turkey. Austria had quite a strong performance in the season, but while Turkey crumbled under Portugal, The Crescent-Stars demolished Das Team without a hitch.

England v Slovakia (30th June) Result: 2-1

We moved into the round of 16 and the Three Lions faced Slovakia, in a match that sent the English into the quarter-finals.

This match did see the favourites struggle against a solid opponent, scoring just on time to stay afloat.

If the English team had to pick a time to play well, they chose the best possible one, securing the win.

Germany v Denmark (29th June) Result: 2:0

Die Mannschaft have pulled off 3 wins and a draw so far, while the Danes haven't scored a win in the tournament.

This time was no different, as the score suggests.

Switzerland v Italy (29th June) Result: 2-0

Entering the thrilling round of 16, the Red Crosses faced a formidable opponent in Italy.

Can the Swiss kept the ball rolling with their strong performance this season, and the Tricolore presented their fans with a big upset.

Georgia v Portugal (26th June) Result: 2-0

Boasting talents like Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes, who seem to pull stunts just to spite bookmakers, definitely did draw tonnes of attention to the Portuguese team, as their clash against Georgia took place.

The Selecção were expected to dominate, but the Georgian team managed to sneak in not one, but two goals past Diogo Costa.

Willy Sagnol's leadership has helped Georgia improve monumentally, but was resilience enough to help them score against the Portuguese? Well, given the non-awarded penalty for Portugal, one might only guess.

This match offered a classic underdog story, with Georgian fans euphoric that their team managed to stun the football world as Georgia pulled off a historic upset?

England v Slovenia (25th June) Result: 0-0

After the recent performances from England, both my colleagues and friends were skeptical of the islanders' chances against the Slovenians, and we weren't surprised by what happened.

What should have been an easy passage onto the next stages of the game, turned soured for the England fans, who expected more action.

Still, on merit, England came out as group winners, being the only team in the group to score a win.

France v Poland (25th June) Result: 1-1

When France entered Euro 2024 they knew they would have to bear the weight of high expectations.

Les Bleus, with manager by Didier Deschamps, faced Poland as the end of the group stages neared.

Captained by Robert Lewandowski, the Polish team was eager to prove their mettle against the French. Especially after the recent lackluster performances we had witnessed from The Blues.

Despite, France's star-studded lineup, Poland's disciplined defense and Lewandowski's goal-scoring prowess lead to a draw of 1-1. This handed Austria the group stage win.

Bookmakers had priced in France to win, but didn't expect the draw.

Switzerland v Germany (23rd June) Result: 1-1

The Red Crosses met die Mannschaft, for what one could imagine as a zero-English-spoken game.

It was the Swiss's turn to qualify for the round of 16, but the bout ended in a draw with the Germans. Luckily for the Swiss, they didn't have to compete for points with Scotland, as the Tartan Army lost to Hungary and dropped off.

A lot was at stake for both teams, and the match surely sparked some strong emotions.

Germany v Scotland (14th June) Result: 5-1

Scotland began their campaign on the opening day of the tournament, as they faced hosts Germany.

Scotland as mentioned, qualified second and beat Spain in the process, but had lost to England during that time. They have a dismal record against Germany, having now won just once in the last fourteen encounters, with Don Hutchison scoring the only goal back in 1999.

Germany despite struggling for form at times, losing to Colombia, Japan, Turkey and Austria in 2023, proved their prowess by dominating Scotland 5-1. It is hoped by many die Mannschaft will be back to their best, while Scotland could make use of a strategy rethink for the remaining matches.

Serbia v England (16th June) Result: 0-1

England opened their Euro 2024 campaign against a Serbia side who are capable of giving any side a tough time.

The two sides had not met internationally before, but Gareth Southgate was wary of a Serbia side featuring world-class players such as Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Dusan Vlahovic, as well as former Premier League players, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Dusan Tadic.

As expected, this was a tight, fraught affair, with England going in as favourites, managing to justify the expectations and securing a 1-0 victory.

Austria v France (17th June) Result: 0-1

After a tense match, this bout ended with a goal, a victory and a broken nose. Mbappe managed to fly into Kevin Danso's shoulder, breaking his nose in the process.

The rest of the game went by and no other significant injuries were sustained, but also no goals were to be had either.

Denmark v England (20th June) Result: 1-1

Quite upsettingly, both teams scored once and that has been the end of the story, as far as goals go.

In fact good for England for finding their feet and leaving the match a draw, in what was otherwise a great opportunity for the Lions to move on to the knockout stages and, well... roar.
